Hi! I’m Halee. 👋🏻

Welcome to Marmol Farm! I’m so glad you’re here.

I just wrapped up my first year as a flower farmer, and needless to say, I love it. We are fortunate to call the Pacific Northwest home, living on beautiful Vashon Island. And while the rainy winter can sometimes bring me down, planning for next year’s flower crop always lifts my spirits.

By training, I’m a social worker. I have worked most of my career in hospice and inpatient palliative medicine. These days, I’m at the hospital part time and also raising my 2 year old son. We have a rescue dog named Nellie, and while I have dreams of adding goats and chickens to the herd, we’ll have to see how Nellie feels about that. ⠀

I believe in local, sustainable flowers and am proudly floral-foam free. I’m a member of Slow Flowers, and try to grow my flowers in a way that is regenerative to the earth.

Thanks for following along on my flower journey. I feel lucky to have the ability to do what I love in such a beautiful place.

Our garden is a certified wildlife habitat. This will help hold me accountable to:

  • Using sustainable practices including only organic fertilizers and no pesticides

  • Ensuring my space is contributing positively to our local environment!

  • Creating a supportive home for local wildlife, like birds and bees

Growing Kindness Ambassador

Ever since I discovered the Growing Kindness Project I felt so excited by and aligned with their mission. I am so pleased to share that I am a 2021 Growing Kindness Ambassador! They will support me in spreading love in my community through flowers. They’ll be giving me resources, support, and education to help me grow cut flowers to give away. For me, giving away flowers has been a wonderful way to connect with my island neighbours during the pandemic. If this sounds like something you’d like too, there are lots of ways to get involved! You can be a growing kindness gardener (I was one last year!) and this year they have a new cultivator program. Check out their page to read all about it!

What’s in a Name?

The name Marmol Farm comes from my great-grandparents Agnes and Martin Marmol. They were dairy farmers in Canada (where I’m from) and I like to think they’re where I get my love of farming.
